It's #ThrowbackThursday, and today we're celebrating Rio Grande Southern “Galloping Goose” motor No. 7’s departure for the “Motor Car Rally” at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City!
To commemorate this 1,000-or-so mile journey, for Throwback Thursday we're looking back at some of the other off-site adventures the Museum's flock of "Geese" have had over the years. That "flock" based in Golden includes Geese Nos. 2, 6 and 7. Three memorable trips follow (there have been others, too):
In 2000, Goose No. 2 traveled to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for Railfest, where it ran alongside Goose No. 5 (today operated by the Galloping Goose Historical Society and based out of Dolores, Colorado) and replica Goose No. 1 (today displayed and occasionally operated at Colorado's Ridgway Railroad Museum).
It’s always exciting when the Colorado Railroad Museum's "gaggle" of Geese hit the road. This week's trip of Goose No. 7 represents the farthest any of the Museum's Geese have "flown" since they first found their new homes in Golden. It's also a great way to celebrate Colorado's 150th birthday, and America's 250th!🪿🚂
