The familiar whistle has always promised adventure. The gentle rock of the rails has set the rhythm of our lives. Climb aboard one of our Train Rides, and you can re-live the magic of the rails all over again!
Mid-January through mid-May, we offer train rides every Saturday. Late May through mid-August, train rides are offered Thursday-Sunday. Saturday train rides then continue into late October, interrupted in September by three Day Out With Thomas event weekends. Train rides operate between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with half-hourly departures. The ride takes you on a loop around the Museum’s 15-acre Rail Yard, and lasts approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Train rides are offered for a small fee in addition to your Museum Admission: $4 adults, $2 ages 2-17 and seniors. Members ride free!* Visit our Events Calendar to check out a list of operating dates, and to see if other activities are ongoing. Purchase Train Ride Tickets in advance (along with Museum Admission) by clicking here. Note: Trains are currently operating at reduced capacity and seating is limited. We recommend advance ticket purchase to reserve your preferred departure time.
Due to the current on-going health situation the Museum is operating at 50% capacity. A Mask is required for entry to the Museum. During your visit we ask that you wear a mask, and follow appropriate Social Distancing practices on-site. Our staff are taking extra measures to clean and sterilize high-traffic areas and we have installed sanitation stations throughout the grounds for your use.
For 2020, we will be operating open-air coaches pulled by a vintage diesel locomotive on most operating days. A steam locomotive may be substituted on selected dates! Our popular “Galloping Goose” rail motorcar will not be operating during the 2020 season due to ongoing concerns related to social distancing and COVID-19. If you are interested in our Day Out With Thomas and Polar Express train rides and dates, learn more by visiting our Events Calendar.
*Special Events and ticketed Theme Train events (such as Day Out With Thomas and The Polar Express Train Ride) not included. We recommend advance Train Ride ticket purchase for Museum Members (free) as well as for the general public, all rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
