STORYBOOK TOUR

10am 1st Tuesday Each Month

This one of a kind tour takes you on a trip throughout the Museum’s rail yard inspired by some of the best of children’s literature! Railroad themed, of course. The Little Engine That Could, the Little Red Caboose and of course, Donald Crews’ Freight Train provide the suitable inspiration for this adventure at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Admission: $10 adults, $5 kids 2-17, $8 seniors (60+). Museum members and children under age 2 are free.
Guided Theme Tour: $3 plus general admission. Museum members and children under age 2 are free.

STORY TIME AND CRAFT

10am-11am 3rd Tuesday Each Month

Join staff and volunteers at the Colorado Railroad Museum as they share some of their favorite children’s stories with a decidedly railroad theme followed by a fun make-and-take craft!

Recommended ages 4-6 years old. Included with general admission!

THRILLING THURSDAYS

2023 Dates TBA

Every Thursday from May 12 – August 11, join us for Thrilling Thursday  from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m! Each Thursday features historic characters, demonstrations, and special guests from our cultural partner organizations. A weekly Pop-Up Exhibit will explore this summer’s theme of innovation, and kids can “scavenger hunt” for our mascot, Spike! Enjoy craft activities, turntable demonstrations, try out our low-tech but fun locomotive simulator, and learn about telegraphy, too. Bring your kids, grandkids and friends—they’ll enjoy learning about Colorado’s rich railroad heritage while having fun, too! (Included with regular Museum Admission). Train Rides also available 10am–3pm!

Grounds open 9 am – 5 pm, rides operate every 30 minutes 10 am to 3 pm (crews take a lunch break at 12:30 pm).

RAILROAD BACKPACKS

Included with admission

Designed for families ages 4 – 99, Activity backpacks are designed to make traditional, adult-oriented galleries more fun and accessible for the entire family. Each pack contains 4 to 8 activities focusing on objects and an array of multisensory activities. Backpacks can be checked out at the front desk in the Museum store free of charge with Museum admission.

SCOUT DAYS

10AM-2PM
Enjoy a variety of activities that complement Scout programs. Whether a Girl, Boy, Cub or Brownie there are fun filled activities to fit your needs!

$14 each Scouts/Chaperones (uniforms encouraged)*
*Please register by Monday, Oct 10, 2022 to ensure your receipt of a CRRM Badge & certificate!

Boy Scout Day – 2023 TBA
Meet historic railroad workers like an engineer or telegrapher! Visit our railyard featuring over 100 pieces of rolling stock. Learn about scale and visit the museum’s two model railroads. Explore tools used on the railroad and lay track with us! Crawl into the cabs of both a steam and diesel locomotive. Learn about railroad signaling using Morse Code, lanterns, whistles & horns! Identify the types of rocks and minerals used on the railroad. Visit with our friends from Operation Lifesaver! And of course, enjoy a train ride pulled by a vintage locomotive!

Girl Scout Day – TBA 2023
Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors are encouraged to join the Colorado Railroad Museum for a fun-filled day enhancing Badges including: First Aid, Mechanical Engineering, Meet an Engineer, Career Exploration, and Animal Habitat. Not only will participants get to make a First Aid Kit to take home, they will learn about Colorado railroads and their connection to First Aid Kits. Scouts will also get to experience a train ride at either 10:45 am or 11:45 am!

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA RAILROADING BADGE ACTIVITY WORKBOOK

Boy Scouts are invited to complete the Boy Scout Railroading Badge Activity Workbook. After completing the workbook contact your Badge Counselor.

Badge Counselors: Please contact the Museum by email to request a copy of the Counselor’s Key.

SPRING BREAK WEEK

Special Activities – TBA 2023

Need a place to take the kids while they are out of school during Spring Break? The Colorado Railroad Museum has a solution! Enjoy Train Rides, pop-up exhibits and reenactors, a craft project, and a host of other special activities and demonstrations. It’s a week of hands-on activities related to the railroad and those connected with it!

Activities and demonstration take place each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Train Rides will depart every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

All Aboard for Spring Break! Train Ride seating is limited, and reservations are recommended.
