STORYBOOK TOUR

10am 1st Tuesday Each Month

This one of a kind tour takes you on a trip throughout the Museum’s rail yard inspired by some of the best of children’s literature! Railroad themed, of course. The Little Engine That Could, the Little Red Caboose and of course, Donald Crews’ Freight Train provide the suitable inspiration for this adventure at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Admission: $10 adults, $5 kids 2-17, $8 seniors (60+). Museum members and children under age 2 are free.
Guided Theme Tour: $3 plus general admission. Museum members and children under age 2 are free.

STORY TIME AND CRAFT

10am-11am 3rd Tuesday Each Month

Join staff and volunteers at the Colorado Railroad Museum as they share some of their favorite children’s stories with a decidedly railroad theme followed by a fun make-and-take craft!

SPRING BREAK WEEK

Special Activities – Tuesday-Friday, March 21-24

Need a place to take the kids while they are out of school during Spring Break? The Colorado Railroad Museum has a solution! Enjoy Train Rides, pop-up exhibits and reenactors, a craft project, and a host of other special activities and demonstrations. It’s a week of hands-on activities related to the railroad and those connected with it!

Activities and demonstration take place each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Train Rides will depart every half-hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission: $10 adults, $5 kids 2-17, $8 seniors (60+). Museum members and children under age 2 are free.

Child Pushes Turntable with Volunteer

THRILLING THURSDAYS

Every Thursday from May 11 – August 10, join us for Thrilling Thursday  from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m! Each Thursday features historic characters, demonstrations, and special guests from our cultural partner organizations. A weekly Pop-Up Exhibit will explore this summer’s theme of innovation, and kids can “scavenger hunt” for our mascot, Spike! Enjoy craft activities, turntable demonstrations, try out our low-tech but fun locomotive simulator, and learn about telegraphy, too. Bring your kids, grandkids and friends—they’ll enjoy learning about Colorado’s rich railroad heritage while having fun, too! (Included with regular Museum Admission). Train Rides also available 10am–3pm!

RAILROAD BACKPACKS

Included with admission

Designed for families ages 4 – 99, Activity backpacks are designed to make traditional, adult-oriented galleries more fun and accessible for the entire family. Each pack contains 4 to 8 activities focusing on objects and an array of multisensory activities. Backpacks can be checked out at the front desk in the Museum store free of charge with Museum admission.

BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA RAILROADING BADGE ACTIVITY WORKBOOK

Boy Scouts are invited to complete the Boy Scout Railroading Badge Activity Workbook. After completing the workbook contact your Badge Counselor.

READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY

Grab your passports and join us for a storybook adventure as we celebrate our second annual Read Across America day at the Colorado Railroad Museum! Train Rides will be available aboard our own legendary “Galloping Goose” railcar this day, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (train rides are an additional $4/adult ages 18 and older, $2 youths/children ages 2-17).

Immerse yourselves in the rich history of railroads by exploring classic train stories during your train ride and inside our historic rail cars throughout the museum’s grounds. You and your family can also visit our upper gallery, where you can color your own bookmark to bring home!

Featured books will include Curious George Takes a Train, Donald Crews’ Freight Train, Marian Potter’s The Little Red Caboose, the Dinosaur Train and more! Sing along with our very own stage performer Boni, and see if you can find all four locations for our mascot Spike, too. Regular admission fees apply.
