The Dinosaur Express Train & Member Appreciation Day
May 29 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Museum members, on these days a special, dedicated car is available just for YOU to ride on our trains, and exclusive Behind-The-Scenes Tours are available for you to enjoy, too! These tours provide a deeper look into selected subjects, and they are different each time!
For the May Member Appreciation Day, trains will be pulled by an authentic, coal-burning steam locomotive. Rio Grande Southern business car Rico (recently refurbished to represent its later appearance as business car No. B-21) will be available exclusively for members to ride aboard. This unique car dates from 1880!
For the Behind the Scenes Tour this day, join us for “Dinosaur Bones & Wildflowers,” where you’ll learn about riding special Wildflower Trains along the Colorado Midland Railroad in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These trains departed from Colorado Springs and headed west, and while advertised as “Wildflower Trains” they also included a stop at Florissant, well known for its dinosaur fossils.
A variety of activities will be ongoing from the previous day’s Dinosaur Express Train (see event description for May 28), carrying over to Sunday as well. Museum members of course enjoy free admission and train rides based on your level of membership. Capacity is limited, so advance reservations are suggested.
