To Market: The Audience

The Railroad Transported Audiences

Planners understood early on that special trains would be needed to convey crowds to and from the Stock Show. The railroads proved to be eager partners in this effort.  Special Pullman cars brought people in from Chicago and Kansas City. Special rates were offered to visitors. As early as 1898, the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy ran additional trains from Denver’s Union Depot to the stock yards. Beginning in the 1920s, a special train was chartered transporting people to the National Western Stock Show from Cheyenne, Wyoming. Railroads continued to be the main mode of transportation for audiences until they were replaced by the automobile in the years following World War II.
