Museum Timetable

Holiday and seasonal trains along with special rail-related events highlight the Museum’s annual Timetable. Select events include a ride behind one of the Museum’s steam or diesel locomotives in passenger cars from different eras in Colorado railroad history or in one of the famous Rio Grande Southern “Galloping Goose” Motorcars.

An Evening of Colorado History. Relax, have a beverage, and travel back to a time when railroads shaped the American West.

Admission includes 2 beverages of your choice: beer, wine or soda and snacks. Doors open at 5:30PM for early enjoyment of Museum displays and the presentation starts promptly at 6:30PM. Presentation length varies by event and the doors close at 8:00PM.

Join staff members of the Colorado Railroad Museum for unique, behind the scenes experiences.

Tours depart at 10:30AM select Saturdays throughout the year. Space is limited to 15 participants.

Guests are invited to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Saturday February 17

This will be a mid-century themed affair and period dress is encouraged. Seating will begin at 4:30pm with dinner served at 5:00pm followed by a short theatrical performance. Both dinner and the performance will occur on our beautiful Union Pacific Dining Car.

Tickets: $150 per couple: includes dinner, desert, beer, wine, or soft drinks, and other “goodies.” Tickets include regular admission and a ride,* We encourage you to arrive early to enjoy the Museum exhibits, pose for photos with historic rail equipment and take a ride on our Galloping Goose before the show starts.

*Regular Museum grounds & exhibits open 9:00AM until 5:00PM, rides operate 10:00AM until the last departure at  4:00PM. Please arrive early to tour the Museum and ride the “Galloping Goose.”

Summer Camp

Explore the story of Colorado through trains and the people who rode and worked on them – like hobos, immigrants and holiday travelers or conductors, brakeman and Harvey Girls.

Through on-site field trips explore the fun of model railroading and the importance of historic preservation.

Hands-on activities, storytelling, demonstrations and more introduce campers to a world that is disappearing.

Registration Fee: $250.00 members, $275.00 non-members.

Director's Storytime and Craft

10:00-11:00AM 3rd Tuesday Each Month

Young train enthusiasts meet to read stories with a decidedly railroad theme followed by a fun make and take home craft. Afterwards enjoy exploring the museum’s grounds and exhibits. The program is a collaboration between the Colorado Railroad Museum and the Golden Public Library. (Upper Gallery)

Recommended ages 4-6 years old. Included with General Admission.

Cub Scout Day

Cub Scouts will enjoy a variety of activities that complement their Arrows of Light Adventures including: participating in the flag ceremony, trying their hand at geocaching, exploring tools used on the railroad, identifying the rocks and minerals used by trains, meeting an engineer, working with a telegraph, learning a traditional railroad song and more.

Registration Fee: $10 per participant, adult leaders free. Register online here.

Model Train Club Operations

Currently the Museum hosts two separate model railroad clubs, each operated by a dedicated base of volunteer club members.
 
The Denver HO Model Railroad Club operates their layout in the Museum Depot Building Lower Gallery Tuesday afternoons 1:00PM-4:00PM. Members also operate during the Day Out With Thomas event days and during most “Special Events” listed above.
 
The Denver Garden Railway Society club members operate most Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings from 9:00AM-12:00PM. Club members also operate during Day Out With Thomas dates and “Special Events” listed above.

Private Event Rentals

The Colorado Railroad Museum offers the perfect setting year-round, for your next “Train-Themed” birthday party, event or celebration. Select from several historic railcars located on the Museum’s 15-acre railyard, located in scenic Golden, Colorado or reserve the outdoor Picnic Pavilion for a privet experience.

Volunteers will open a variety of cars for visitors to explore. This is a fun and unique opportunity for visitors to explore a nmber of cars normally not open to the public!
