We invite you to serve as a Volunteer so that your individual talents can help keep the Museum one of the best of its kind. And you’ll gain knowledge related to railroading, history, artifacts, visitor services and other important aspects of our events and operations.
We are in need of volunteers who would like to help us spiff up our beloved Museum and grounds on select Saturdays. Please sign up below for each of the dates you are available for and interested in volunteering on.
We request that volunteers bring rakes, shovels, and clippers if they have them available.
The day will start at 9:00AM and the Museum will provide pizza and drinks for lunch.
We are as fantastic as we are because of volunteers like you. Thank you!
Docents make a difference! It is the docent that engages visitors with the museum’s story through tours, educational programs and demonstrations. It is also the docents who answer visitor questions about the various objects and exhibits at the museum. Theirs is a unique role often making the difference between what is a phenomenal experience and one that just isn’t quite up to its potential.
This spring we are hosting a docent training for volunteers to provide them with some of the basic skill sets that make the difference between the extraordinary and the so so. We will introduce a draft of the museum’s new interpretation manual and how to use it, provide background training on engaging visitors with our main themes and ensuring their experience is the best possible. Plus, we will just have some fun.
This is the perfect workshop for both beginning docents and those who attended last fall’s training.
The workshop will be repeated twice so sign up for either date.
The Bunny Express Train returns to our railyard on Saturday, March 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you have played a role in this over the years or want to join us for the first time, please register below. As always, you may visit the Events link for details on this special springtime celebration!
We have an exciting March coming up and hope you can join us.
Elizabeth Nosek, our Curator of Education and Exhibits, has created a magical SPRING BREAK PROGRAM running March 21 – 24, 2016. We are looking for some energetic folks to assist each day with these school age children and their families, in shifts from 8:30AM-12:30PM and 12:30PM-3:30PM.
The topics differ each day (see below), so take a look and see which might be a good fit.
We also need 1-2 Volunteer Managers each day to roam the activities and confirm that all volunteers are where they need to be and have what THEY need. It would be especially helpful if those interested have a year or so in children’s acitivities under their belts.
