Attention teachers! Bring the excitement of the Colorado Railroad Museum into your classroom with the Artifact Trunk! The trunk is available to teachers for a refundable deposit of $25. Activities included are suitable for grades Pre-K to 6th and are inquiry-based and hands-on. You will amaze your students with a demonstration of a working steam engine or give them the chance to touch and use real railroad artifacts, such as a 100 year old conductor’s ticket punch. Students can try working on the railroad and signal Morse code on an actual telegraph key or pretend to be an early twentieth-century railroad passenger and select a meal from a hundred-year-old diner car menu. Teach your students about westward expansion and the Transcontinental Railroad and help them realize the significant role that railroads played in shaping Colorado and The West. Younger students can learn by dressing in costumes, hearing stories or singing railroad songs. These and many more activities and objects are included in the Colorado Railroad Museum’s Artifact Trunk to help you facilitate learning and bring history to life in the classroom.
