D&RGW Steam Engine No. 346

 We now have a zero tolerance of sparks from the stack of the coal burning locomotive. This political situation has forced use to operate the oil burning  locomotives till we can mitigate a solution for 346. We are making drawings and other preparations to create a “Bear Trap” or Ridgway spark arrester for the 346. This arrangement was on the 346 when it was being leased by the C&S from the D&RDW. The bear trap will also have a stack sprayer inside to aid with hot cinder management. If the Bear “Trap” addresses the hot cinder issue enough to please the Fairmont District Fire Department, we will be able to operate the 346 again. If not a more radical solution may have to be employed.
