Denver & Rio Grande Western K-37 Steam Locomotive No. 491

Volunteers and Museum staff are busy preparing 491’s Tender Deck in anticipation of the next round of boiler tests. Volunteers are applying linseed oil to treat the deck boards.

There have been several other projects taking place out of the roundhouse this last month including the moving and cocooning of the first class Pullman we received from Grand Junction a few months ago. Uintah Combine Car No. 50

Due to the man hours needed to finish the new Railroading Now: Colorado Railroad Workers 1970 to Today (on display in the Museum’s main building), little progress has been made on Uintah Combine No. 50. Here are several pictures from stall 5 and of the new display.      

D&RGW Coach No. 284

One side of D&RGW Coach No. 284 is nearly stripped for its new paint job. We will prime the car with Arbitron epoxy and paint with urethane paint. Then immediately finish with clear coat (the same as the D&RGW Business Car B-8). This will hopefully negate all the problems with UV and pealing.
